I recently attended a national conference for the PR trade group PRSA. The industry is consumed by social media, with PR professionals quickly moving to adapt these new tools in ways that improve lead generation, customer retention and brand awareness. But here’s the best comment made at the conference: Edelman PR CEO Matt Harrington spoke about industry changes, including how valuable new graduates were to the profession. But while they had much to contribute in creativity and online savvy, the culture of this latest generation left him a little cold in one respect: “On more than one occasion, after one of our young staff members received their review, we’ve received a phone call from their parents!” The conference gasped at that one.
